Estrogen.
Our world is unnaturally swarming with estrogen and estrogen-like substances. As I mentioned previously, just about all our foods contain pesticides, most of which have the chemical structure of estrogen and, when ingested, provoke a weak estrogenic effect on our systems. Other estrogen impostors come from the petrochemical industry in the form of plastics used for baby bottles and other plastic recipients. Because of their "weakness" they are considered safe. The problem is the synergism that takes place when combined. The negative effects to our organisms can be devastating.
Inadvertently the livestock feed of a farm in Michigan was contaminated with the pesticide Polychlorinated Biphenyl (PCB), a "weak" estrogen imitator. Pregnant women and mothers that breast fed their children who consumed the meat of these animals were horrified to find that their male children developed genital deformities and very small penises. In Taiwan, Chinese scientists have under observation 118 male children of mothers that were contaminated with PBC in an accidental spill in 1989. These boys are suffering from the same painful complications as those from Michigan. In lakes with high concentrations of DDT and DDE, pesticides that also have estrogenic effects, the fauna has been severely degenerated. Alligators of the Apopka lake in Florida have lost virility because of low testosterone and sperm count, consequently the size of their male organs are a fourth of the norm. The Great Lakes are gravely polluted with PCB and DDT, many fish and seagulls that eat them, have developed grotesque hormonal dysfunction that make them hermaphrodite, according to Theo Colburn of the World Wildlife Fund.
Niels Skakkebaek, a Danish endocrinologist and probably the foremost authority on the subject of estrogen, reported in 1991 that because of the exaggerated exposure to estrogen and estrogen-like substances, men have presently only 50% of the normal sperm count, significant reduction in the size of their reproductive organs and that the incidence of testicular cancer has tripled. Unbelievable, but John Lennon announced it 30 years ago in his song Yesterday: "…Suddenly, I'm just half the man I used to be…" These chemicals have mercilessly maimed our virility, sex drive, fatherhood and manhood. Wives and Mothers, if you want more from your husbands, don't feed them estrogen infested meats and foods! Protect your boys (and girls) in the same way.
One could conclude that all this overflow of estrogen was concocted by the women's movement to abolish the "macho" in all men, unfortunately the female hormone also has deteriorated their well-being as well and as bad!.
These synthetic estrogens and chemical agents that copy their actions represent a very real threat to society. They are very resistant to breakdown and remain active for a great many years. In one way or another, they end up in the food chain and our body can't neutralize them. Long Island, NY, has the highest incidence of cancer of the breast in the US. Researchers of the NCI have associated it to the vast quantity of pesticides used on the farming soils before they turned to urban communities, now the pesticides are abundant in the local tap water. Mary Wolf, MD, a professor at Mt. Sinai School of Medicine in NY, reported that breast tumor biopsies of women from Long Island showed unusually high concentrations of DDT and DDE. The incidence of cancer was 4 times higher than in biopsies where the pesticides are absent or in low concentrations.
If the consequences of the "imitators" are this fearful, imagine what the real estrogen found in meats and prescription drugs can do. In spite of the controversy, the research overwhelmingly supports that estrogen increases the incidence of many female ailments including cancer of the breast, uterus and ovaries among other.
My heart goes out to women. As if the ocean of estrogen that engulf us was not enough, they have to worry about their own! Their femininity can work against them. The amplitude of their "estrogen window" (lapse between menarche [the first menstruation] and menopause [the last menstruation]) is directly related to the incidence of breast cancer. In other words, if a girl starts her period very young (9 or 10 yr.) and menstruates well into her 50's, she will have greater contact with her endogenous (produced by herself) estrogen and will have higher possibilities of developing this terrible cancer.
Did God make a mistake? The American Cancer Society estimated 11, 000 new cases for 1986. In only a decade, the number rose to 184, 300 for 1996! God is not to blame. The Japanese that eat unsophisticated, low fat, rudimentary diets as well as the Chinese and women from other underdeveloped countries, have extremely low incidence of this type of malignancy. I will explain further ahead, why.
But cancer is only one of the many ailments that estrogens have brought upon women. Menstrual, fertility, ovarian and uterine problems can be listed. German scientists have encountered high blood concentrations of PCB in women with endometriosis, an inflammatory pelvic disease that causes severe pre- and menstrual pain, with sterility as one of its major complications. Before the pesticide era, endometriosis was virtually nonexistent. In 1920 only 21 cases had been reported in the whole world. At least five million women presently have endometriosis in the US alone!
